Air freight is generally used for goods that are urgently needed, when road transport cannot meet the customer's required delivery time.
For goods transported by air, the carrier is responsible for the transported goods from the moment the shipper hands them over until the carrier delivers the goods to the consignee; this period is called the carrier's liability period. Damage or loss of goods due to improper loading, unloading, transportation, storage, or delivery is called cargo damage or loss.
Airlines are the carriers, and air waybills are the delivery documents. Air transport agents, such as foreign trade companies, also have their own air waybills (also called sub-air waybills in air freight). Both air waybills and sub-air waybills have liability allocation and compensation clauses on the back.
