On June 15th, Michael, one of our Australian clients, reached out to us for an ocean freight solution. He needed an FCL full door-to-door logistics service, covering ocean export from China, customs clearance at the port of Adelaide, Australia, and final delivery to his designated local address.
First off, I confirmed with Michael whether his receiving address in Australia was a residential or commercial one. Many private residential areas in Australia have narrow and rough roads that standard large trailers cannot access, which easily leads to failed deliveries. By double-checking the address type in advance, we avoided potential delivery issues and laid a solid foundation for a tailored local delivery solution.
After confirming the delivery address, I checked the estimated goods readiness time with Michael. Based on his production and packing schedule, I offered him multiple suitable sailing options and prepared alternative backup solutions. This helped us cope with common unexpected issues like tight shipping schedules or full container space, making sure the goods could be shipped on time without delaying his plans.
Besides arranging vessel schedules, I also checked container loading risks. The customer's products are agricultural supplies. I verified the overall volume and weight of the goods strictly against container weight limits. Overweight cargo is a common and risky issue in ocean freight. Exceeding the standard weight limit will easily result in port rejection, huge extra charges and severe shipping delays.
I also introduced our exclusive local delivery service in Australia to help him receive the goods hassle-free. We use sideloaders to place containers directly on the ground at his designated location, so he doesn't need to arrange any unloading equipment by himself. Once he finishes unstuffing the cargo, we will collect the empty containers and return them to the nearby depot within the carrier's free detention period. This arrangement gives him plenty of time for unloading without rushing against deadlines, bringing him a super convenient and worry-free delivery experience.
To add extra protection for the shipment, we purchased cargo insurance covering the whole process from ocean transportation and customs clearance to final delivery. It effectively guards against potential risks such as cargo damage and loss during transit, fully securing the client's goods.
Australia has extremely strict import quarantine policies, so I carefully checked the outer packaging materials with our domestic supplier. Australian customs conduct rigorous inspections on wooden, bamboo and rattan packaging. Any packaging made of raw solid wood, bamboo or rattan requires fumigation in advance. In contrast, packaging made of plywood, crushed wood and other recycled wood materials, as well as wooden packages with valid IPPC marks, are exempt from fumigation. I confirmed all packaging complied with local regulations to prevent customs inspection, detention or rejection at the port of destination.
I also prepared well in advance for customs clearance by checking whether the supplier had applied for the China-Australia Certificate of Origin. This certificate greatly speeds up customs clearance in Australia and reduces clearance obstacles. Meanwhile, our team can also help apply for and issue the certificate if needed, saving customer from tedious coordination work.
With careful full-process follow-up and strict risk control over vessel schedules, container loading, quarantine inspection, customs clearance and local delivery, the shipment was successfully loaded and shipped out on July 4th. Thorough detail checking and proactive risk prevention throughout the whole logistics process are the key to smooth shipment and a stress-free experience for our clients.
